Born in Seoul, South Korea, she studied drawing and painting with figurative American painters, Sidney Goodman and Will Barnet at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. The recipient of merit scholarships, Paik also won numerous prestigious prizes including the William Cresson European Traveling Prize, Benjamin West Prize and Thomas Eakins Prize among others. Paik exhibited in New Orleans, New York and Philadelphia before her subsequent move to London in 1997.
Along with solo exhibitions in Cork St. London, Paik has participated in the Royal Society of Portrait Painters' Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, BP Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery, Aberdeen Art Gallery and the Garrick/Milne Prize exhibitions at Christie's. In 2003 Paik won the first prize in the Garrick/Milne Prize, a national painting competition, for her painting titled Rehearsal at RADA, which now hangs in the Garrick Club's Permanent Art Collection in London.
