Ron Straka was born in 1935 in Reading, Pennsylvania and graduated from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. He was first drawn to painting in his early teens having been influenced by watching his uncle paint with oils. Though he was a physicist professionally, he painted in parallel with his science career which sent him to the four corners of the world including much of Europe, South America, the South Pacific as well as much of the United States.

He is continually drawn to the challenges of plein-air painting, and continues to travel extensively interpreting the beauty of nature through his art. Ron Straka has lived and maintained a studio in Rockport, Massachusetts since 1982. Many of his works reflect the beauty of his Cape Ann home where he has painted with many prominent Cape Ann artists including, Emile Gruppe, Zyg Jankowski and his mentor Paul Strisik.
Straka has taught at The Boston Center for Adult Education, and currently teaches at the Rockport and North Shore Arts Associations. Ron also teaches oil painting workshops throughout New England, as well as private lessons.
His work is shown throughout the country and abroad, and has been displayed at the American Embassy residence in Bratislava, Slovak Republic.
He is also an accomplished photographer, having studied with Ansel Adams. His photography was shown at The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts and The DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, Massachusetts.
Artist Memberships include Artist Member of the Rockport Art Association (former President and former Board of Governors), the North Shore Arts Association (former President and Honorary Member), Academic Artists Association, and The International Society of Marine Painters. He is often invited to serve on both awards and membership juries for numerous Art Associations.
