Lois Obert

Biography from the Archives of askART

Lois McDonald Obert Cuthbertson was born in Truckee, California on August 26, 1903. A painter of landscapes, still life works, and portraits, she moved to Berkeley, California as a child. During the 1920's she studied at Mills College and the University of California.

At the onset of the Great Depression, she abandoned art and married Charles Obert in 1933. She was inactive as an artist until 1946. Upon returning to painting she exhibited her works and won several awards at important exhibition venues. She also served as a juror to several of these noted events.

She later married John Cuthbertson. She resided in Oakland, California until her death on October 21, 1993.

Obert exhibited her work at the Society of Western Artists, Alameda Art Association, Hayward Art Association, and Santa Cruz Art League. She was a member of, and award winner in, many of the venues in which she exhibited. She also exhibited at the Alameda County Fair.
