Bernard Boutet De Monvel

Bernard Boutet de Monvel, born in Paris on 10 August 1881 and died in the Azores on 28 October 1949, was a French painter, designer and illustrator.  As a portrait painter, he was known for clean lines and pale colours.

He grew up in Meudon at 7 Trail White Stones in the house where his father Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel was born.  He studied with his father, also a renowned painter, and later with Luc-Olivier Merson for painting and Jean Dampt for sculpture.  From 1903 he exhibited in various shows.

During the First World War, he served as an aviator in the French Army of the East under the command of Captain Denain to the Salonika expedition in 1915, alongside Paul Jouve, Jacques Richepin a  ...  Displaying 750 of 8518 characters.
