Edward Emerson McDowell was born in Bolivar, PA on Oct. 5, 1879. McDowell studied at the Pittsburgh Academy and H. S. Stevenson's Art School. He worked in the art department of the Pittsburgh Press until 1903 and then settled in Los Angeles where he became a cartoonist with the Los Angeles Record. He signed his artworks "Mac." McDowell died in Los Angeles on March 10, 1946.
