Nicholas V. Macchio

Biography from the Archives of askART

Born in Hells Kitchen of New York City, Nicholas Macchio is a painter in contemporary realist style of portraits and cityscapes. In 2002, he created an image of the collapse of the Twin Towers called "Home of the Brave," a celebration of the bravery of the rescue workers. Reproductions of this work will hang in the offices of the Fire and Police Commissioners. His portrait subjects include Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, and Brigitte Bardot.

Macchio is from an Italian/Greek family, and by age five was showing artistic talent. He earned a college degree in Advertising Art and Design, worked as a magazine illustrator, and then became an independent artist, donating much artwork to the animal rights movement.

He has traveled extensively doing portraits and painting movie sets. His work is in many collections including that of Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, the Sinatra family, Al Pacino, and the offices of Smith Barney and the National Hockey League.
