Raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Janice Sachse created artwork that reflected the social conditions of Louisiana during the mid-twentieth century.  She studied art at Louisiana State University and Sophie Newcomb College and exhibited with the Southern States Art League, Laurel Art Gallery, Southern Art Federation, and Louisiana State Art Commission.

She died on July 14, 1998. The Janice R. Sachse visiting artist series at Louisiana State University was endowed and established in her honor. (Source: LSU press release of 1/26/1999).
