Whitney Brooks Abbott is active/lives in California. Whitney Abbott is known for interior, landscape.
From a young age, Whitney Brooks Abbott wanted to become an artist, "My entertainment was to carry around a sketchbook and to draw the life around me." Influenced by her mother, artist, Meredith Brooks Abbott and three aunts all working as artists, she was surrounded by art.
Whitney attended the University of California at Santa Cruz and majored in art. After graduation, she taught art for about 10 years before quitting to pursue a career in fine art full time. About a decade ago she began painting interiors. "I was just drawn to some of the shapes and light patterns that are ingrained in my mind since I was a child." Interested in light on surfaces, she often paints the same subject matter over 15 times, recording the light changes.
Abbott was spotlighted in Southwest Art's "21 Under 31" article in 2002. Today, she is fast becoming known for impressionistic interior scenes. She is currently exploring the interiors of her childhood home at Abbott Ranch as well as Serena Ranch where she now lives. Both are apart of her family since 1922, just down the coast from Santa Barbara.
