Illustrator Robert Barrett received a B.F.A. degree in painting from the University of Utah, before earning an M.A. and M.F.A. in painting from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  Following these degrees, he received a German Academic Exchange Grant to study for a year at the Hochschule der Kunst in Berlin.  Barrett has taught in the Department of Visual Arts at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, for the past twenty years.  He is a member of the Illustrator's Partnership of America and Society of Illustrators.  His work has appeared in Print Magazines' Regional Design Annual.

Barrett has completed a number of religious works including Portraits of the Prophets, which is on long-time exhibition on the Brigham Young campus.  His paintings are also on exhibit around the world at Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' visitor centers and temples.  He also exhibited in the Tennessee State Museum show, "One Hundred Years of Religious Illustration."

Barrett's awards include the Utah Advertising Federation Exhibit, Salt Lake Art Directors Club Show, the Eliza R. Snow Fellowship and a grant from the Utah State Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts to be artist in residence at the Kimball Art Center.

Barrett's exhibitions include the Norman Rockwell Museum, Stockbridge, Massachusetts; Society of Illustrators, New York City; and Directors Guild of America, New York City.  His work has been exhibited in shows at the LDS Church Museum of Art and History, as well as other Utah-based exhibitions like the Kimball Art Center and Springville Art Museum.

Barrett has illustrated books such as The Nauvoo Temple Stone, about the rebuilding of the LDS Temple in Nauvoo, Illinois, and The Story of the Walnut Tree, as well as for major publishers like Bantam, Dell, Dial, Double Day, Fawcett, Harper-Collins, McGraw Hill, Random House and Viking.

Robert Barrett has taught illustration at Brigham Young University in Salt Lake City, Utah for over two decades.  The artist has created drawings for many publishers including Random House, Harper Collins, and Dell Publishing.
