Born in Los Angeles CA in 1957 Soon after her parents moved there from Japan, Yuriko was born. She was raised in a very traditional household, where her mother studied Ikebana and English was a second language. Her parents chose neighborhoods without many Asians. She was Americanized quickly once she attended school. Throughout her education, art has always, unquestionably, been her strongest asset.

Takata studied fine arts and illustration, and had many gallery exhibitions in the United States including Indianapolis, California, Oregon, Connecticut, Chicago, and New York and in the Mito Cultural Center in Mito,Japan.
She exhibited in an Katmandu, Nepal, as well as her displaying her work at the 2000 exhibition Le Comite National Monagasque, International in Monaco. She hopes to have more international projects in the future.
A very committed artist, she works in California, when not traveling. Yuriko has worked in watercolor and oil pastels for the last ten years, working on location and finding inspiration in nature.
