Christine Brennan

Biography from Brumfield LLC

Christine Brennan studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and earned a BFA in Illustration. Working out of her studio in Ojai, California, Brennan exhibits work widely in California, including galleries in Ventura County and Los Angeles.  Her exhibition history, though, has spanned the US, seeing shows from New Mexico, to Washington, and to Vermont.

Her work, too, is widely collected across the country, including the public collections like City of Ventura Municipal Art Collection and the Carnegie Art Museum.  Brennan's list of private collections is equally impressive, listing Drew Barrymore, Jonathan Winters, Pat Richardson, and Sir Anthony Hopkins as personal collectors of her artwork.

Brennan has earned several awards as well, such as the Director's Choice "Master in our Midst Award from the Carnegie Art Museum, the Best of Show award from the Ventura County Assembly of the Arts, and the Featured Artist Award for the Focus on the Masters program.

Often dreamlike and enigmatic, Christine Brennan's work features a host of symbolic and allegorical reference. Brennan's images draw from the unconscious, leading the viewer into richly-lit narratives that evoke personal stories and associations.

As a painter and printmaker, Brennan works in oil on paper or board and hand-colored linoleum block prints. Never setting out to illustrate a specific theme or story, the artist creates each image as she goes, changing and shaping it along the way. That each untitled image may call forth different interpretations is a balance the artist strives for.

Biography from City of Ventura Municipal Art Collection
Dreamlike and enigmatic, Christine Brennan's artwork features a host of symbolic and allegorical references. Her images allude to the unconscious mind and draw the viewer into an alternate realm of stories and associations.

As a painter and printmaker, Christine works in oil on paper or board, and hand colored linoleum block prints. She never sets out to illustrate a specific theme or story, but creates each image on impulse, changing and shaping along the way. Her work is deliberately untitled. Rather than projecting her own interpretations onto the viewer, she prefers the individual to engage with the work on their own terms bringing their personal experiences to it.

Christine Brennan has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in illustration from Rhode Island School of Design. She is currently represented by galleries in Los Angeles, Ventura County and Santa Fe, New Mexico and has participated in numerous exhibitions from Washington State to Vermont.
