He taught more than 4,000 students including ones at Wellesley College, had more than 100 solo exhibitions, and wrote three widely read art education books. He remains a strong influence on art education.
Woodbury was from a comfortable, well-established family. He sold his first oil painting when he was 15 and at age 17 in 1884, was the youngest person ever elected to the Boston Art Club.
