Biography
Domenico Gnoli

Biography from the Archives of askART

The son of Annie de Garrou, a potter, and Umberto Gnoli, art historian, Domenico Gnoli became a painter, illustrator and designer. Much of his work is abstraction and modernist. In 1950, he exhibited drawings in Rome, and in 1951, he exhibited work in Brussels.  During that decade he worked in Italy, London and Paris both as a designer for theatres and as a newspaper illustrator.

He lived in New York City from 1955 to 1962, working primarily as a painter. It was a time when Pop Art was prevalent, and he focused on making faithful reproductions of everday objects such as thread on fabrics, and clothing including neckties, shoes and sleeves.

Later in his career, he did a series of bronze sculptures.
