A Neo-Expressionist in New York City in the latter half of the 20th century, David Salle created paintings that juxtaposed seemingly unrelated images, often sexually oriented, from mass media. He was born in Norman, Oklahoma, and earned a BFA and MFA from the California Institute for the Arts where he studied under John Baldessari whose terse imagery much influenced Salle.
