Martin Kainz, German/American Expressionist painter, was born in the tiny village of Herbertshausen near Munich, Germany on May 7, 1899. Working at an early age in a paint factory led him to the pursuit of art. He studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, 1922-1926, and emigrated to the United States later that same year and settled in New York City.
His first American one-man show was at the Ralston Gallery, NY in 1927. Additional exhibitions of his work were held at the Kasper Gallery, Berlin, 1927; Yorke Galleries, Wash DC 1929, Dudensing Gallery, NY 1932, Weyhe Gallery NY 1935, 1936; Westermann Gallery, NY 1936, 1938, 1940, Lilienfeld Galleries, NY, 1946, Gallerie Kainz, Berlin, 1956; Goethe Gallery, Montreal ...
