Beginning his career in Maine and Massachusetts, and ending in Iowa, Isaac Wetherby was in Norway, Maine in 1834; Boston from 1835 to 1846; and Milton from 1848 to 1854. He traveled to Louisville, Kentucky in 1844, and after his marriage in 1846, moved to Roxbury, MA.
In 1854, he went to Iowa City to set up a daguerreotype studio and after a few months went to Rockford, Illinois where he lived until 1857. After two years in Eureka, Iowa, he and his family settled in Iowa City, where he retired in 1874 and died in 1904.
He began his career as a portraitist and also did ornamental work as well as photography.
