How did Giacometti sign his sculptures? How do u tell an original?
Dear justin, I think you should go ahead and have the etching cleaned. The value is significantly diminished, however, half a confirmed signature is better than none at all. The art that often doesn't sell at auction is the unsigned work.
partially signed Vivantes cendres, innomées”, etching justin
I recently came into a signed and numberd etching from the Vivantes cenderes innomees series, however it has a couple of serious issues, one, it has some water damage stains at the bottom, and second, someone years ago must have cut the margins to fit a frame and cut the Giacometti signature in half. All that is left of the original signature is the (ometti) Although the etching ok, the outside border was shortened. My question is, does this make the print worthless? or is it even worth having the water stains removed from a restoration place? Just wondering if this etching has any value left what so ever. Any advice would be appreciated
