Response to Ms. Leininger-Millerrobynterese
Hi - I have attempted to reach you by phone because I saw the link for the fair in Florida and you offered your contact info. I am an Augusta Savage enthusiast and believe that I have six figurines and gave several more to one of my friends. I have been trying to authenticate them for some time with no luck. Do you have samples of her signature or maker's mark? It was these figurines that began my interest in this phenomenal artist. Any help would be appreciated.
how did augusta savage die? I want to know bad.

Augusta Savage's most famous work was "The Harp", a piece designed for the New York World's fair. It was a signature piece for the fair. When the fair was over, no one wanted it. It was destroyed. I was fortunate to meet Selma Burke before she died. I think she is the one who told me that Augusta Savage was in such despair, she threw pieces of art from a window of her studio when she had fallen on bad times. She destroyed several pieces. I hope that one day she will receive her just acclaim. I would love to see a respective of her work.

I am currently writing a book on Savage, and am eager to find as many of her works as possible. I have already identified over 130 pieces by her. Please contact me if you have information. Thanks.
