I belong to Gallery 53 in Meriden Ct. We have two paintings of Lilla Yale in our collection. I find this discussion board very interesting. I thought Virginia Thomas founded ACAM.

Lilla Yale Letters
Peter Barnett (09/25/2011)
Responding to a post from Kathy Grant on 10/30/05...I am a distant relative of Lilla Yale and am interested in the letters and clippings you wrote of. I have in my files pictures of Lilla visiting with my grandmother and her family at their farm at Hotchkiss Grove in Branford, CT in the early 1900's. My mother and a cousin are both owners of origional works by Lilla, given by her to the family. If these papers are still in your posession I would be happy to receive them.

Kathy Grant (10/30/2005)
I found a big box full of letters from Lilla Yale to her cousin Mattie H Stewart, they are very personal letters and newspaper clippings about thier family. Does anyone know what I should do with these ?

CL Yale
Mary Elizabeth Peterson (01/12/2003)
There is not much biographical info out there, but yes, Charlotte Lilla Yale was indeed a painter who studied with WM Chase, et al, who founded the Meriden Arts & Crafts Assn. She also moved to NC and was instrumental in the handicraft revival. She started Biltmore Industries and later "retired" to Tryon and started up the Tyron Toy Works.

Charlotte Yale, woodcarver
Michael McCue (09/29/2000)
We would like to know whether this Charlotte Yale was related to the famous art woodcarver Charlotte Yale (unmarried)who moved to North Carolina circa 1900 to work at Asheville establishing Biltmore Industries. In 1915 she moved with her fellow artist & companion Eleanor Vance to Tryon, North Carolina where they founded a woodworking operation.
