As I was researching my late grandfather's artwork, I came across this thread. There are at least three artists with the last name LaForet. One is Eugene LaForet -- I do not know much about him, but if you google his name you can see he mostly did landscapes. My grandparents, Henry and Harriet LaForet were artists in New York. They supported their family with their artwork through the Great Depression and beyond. The paintings that M. Murphy describes are almost certainly my grandfather Henry's. He painted flowers on silk, and my mom mentioned that he painted irises specifically. He also painted lilies, so Bob Meyer, yours are probably my grandfather's as well. Jayne, those are probably my grandfather's, although possibly my grandmother's. They painted kittens, dogs and horses.

Foret Paintings of White Lillies on silk-17X22 counting the frameBob Meyer
I have two matching painting, that look like they are on silk, of lillies, and in the lower right hand corner it says FORET.
I do not know anything about them, but I do know they are oils. If anyone has any ideas feel free to send them my way as to the painter and the works themselves.
I purchased 2 sweet little paintings on silk, and they are marked LA Foret in the bottom right hand corner. One is of a kitten with a large blue bow and the other is two colorful birds (parrots?) on silk.
I would love to know if the Eugene LaForet who painted landscapes is the same artist of these, but I'm doubtful that this is the same artist. My subject matter is very simple, as if it were done for children's rooms, but it's still very delightful. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your insight.

Water on the right and a town rising up from the water with coral roofed buildings and mountains in the distance. A secion of a wall appears in the foreground. Would love to know more about this. If Beverly E, reads this and he is your uncle, please contact me.

I have a oil Laforet painting, is about 2'×3', have his name on the right bottom corner. The scene is a lake with blossom trees, with a girl and a women sitting on the grass between a small pond and a farther way lake. Could this painting be original?
There is a Laforet painting in my family. A man came to the door of the home of a relative in Louisville, KY in the l920's. He left the painting with them and said that he would come back later to collect money. The painting is still in the family (original owners son). It is a pastoral scene with sheep. We don't really know but assumed the artist was the main selling the painting door to door. It is an oil. The painting was appraised with a preliminary appraisal of $800 at a local art appraiser some years back but he suggested further research.

Response to Laforet geese questionRoberta Heyn
I too have an 8 X 10 (incl 1/2" border) of the same painting. I thought that it was an original water color until the glass was cracked and I took it apart to replace the glass. On the bottom border (which was hidden when framed) is the copyright information:
1987 SCAFA-TORNABENE ART PUB. INC. WEST NYACK, N.Y. NO 206-9724 This information may something that you can use to foloow up on and get your question answered. In the far lowr right, in the border as well is (in small print) LITHO IN U.S.A. I have no idea now if these two are, in fact, Lithos or what. Anyone have any answers?
I also hava a framed mate to this picture...both obviously just good prints, and the second one is of the same geese, only 12 in this scene with the same kind of quickly fading background. In this scene the little girl is not present, only an old wagon, filled with dolls and teddy bears and the geese appear to be surrounding it and guarding it. The artist signature is the same but in the lower left, whereas the other one is in the lower right of the scene, both spelled and printed identically

It is of a man and woman gazing across an old time French street. The period looks like it could be the 17th century. Is this an original or a fake.

I have one of Eugene LaForet's paintings of an old house with white paint. The doors and window panes of the house are light blue. A table with two chairs are partially shown at the bottom-right of the painting. Flowers and potted plants surround the house in shades of pink.
I'm not sure if I have the right artist. Even though the signature reads Laforet, I've yet to find a painting similar to this one. Does anyone have a similar painting?
