coppedge worthGlen Gaulton
Nice to hear about this find.I own 2 Coppedge pieces and am a huge fan.
It's hard to exactly answer the worth question on a Coppedge painting with out seeing it. The major price controls relate to: 1) sophistication of workmanship - she produced some very thorough pieces and then others that were more sloppy, 2) size - generally speaking larger pieces fetch more and, 3) subject matter - some scenes are just more appealing than others.
However, as a guide, the smaller pieces done less well generally fall in the $6-12,000 range, while large very well done pieces can easily fetch >$50,000. The rest fall in between.
I know less about the Kuns value.
Happy to chat more if you like.
distant relative of Fern seeks infoDiana Marshall
I am a distant relative of Fern Coppedge and have some interesting bio on her through my family's ancestery more specially about the family's connection to McPherson, Kansas. I also recently found an origianl oil painting of hers upstairs in the attic, I believe one of her snowscapes of her house. I acquired this painting from my great uncle, who was Fern's cousin. I believe she gave it to him in 1938 and I acquired it after his death. I also have several paintings by Ollie M. Kuns, whom I believe was her sister or sister-in-law. (I have to get out the records to check on this.) I'm interested in what the paintings are worth and would appreciate any information.
NEW Art Book will include Fern CoppedgeLes Fox
N.Y. Times bestselling authors Les and Sue Fox are doing research for a new book titled "The Art Buyers Handbook" to be published in 2011 or 2012. This book will feature stories of real people who bought valuable art at garage sales, flea markets, local auctions and estate sales. Did you know that a masterpiece by Joseph Decker ("Ripening Pears") was bought at a garage sale in 2001 for $5, and sold to the National Gallery Of Art in 2004...for $1,000,000? If you or someone you know has purchased a genuine painting by Fern Coppedge for a fraction of its AskArt value, we would like to publish your story in our book. Your name will be kept confidential, unless you want us to publish it. The facts must be verified, and we will need photos of your painting (original oil or watercolor, not a print, lithograph or limited edition.) Thank you. Les Fox.
