Frank Dumond Margaree Mrs. Tompkins
peter arguimbau (06/16/2009)
I have a painting of Mrs. Tompkins, by Dumond from the Margaree River Valley, noted on the back as 'the Innkeeper'. Unfortunately, Frank Mason, Dumond's successor to the ASL class in NYC since his death in 1951 till last year died 6/6/09, who was very knowledgeble about Dumond. Also Bob Cestone might have some information on Dumond who handled the Dumond estate from Mrs Perry, his daugther, also a long time ago, from whom I bought my Dumond . Not sure of his where abouts. Peter Arguimbau

Du Mond and Mason
Joan Majtenyi (06/09/2004)
I studied with Gene Scarpantoni in the 1960's and I know he studied at ASL. He showed us a painting done by one of his teachers there that was hanging in the MMA in the 60's. It was a large landscape including ruins of a Greek temple. Does anyone remember this painting, its name, and who painted it. I have narrowed the field to Du Mond, Mason, and Maynard. Thanks, JM

Dr. Kevin Tompkins (01/09/2003)
Mr. DuMond conducted his Canadian Summer School for the ASLEY from my grandmother's house in Margaree Nova Scotia. I am in the process of trying to write an article about artists who spent time in Margaree. More than happy to hear from anybody with information. K. Tompkins

Personal tidbits
Dr. Jeffrey Owens (08/24/2001)
The 1910 Who's Who in America gives a bit of personal information not found in the AskArt biography. Du Mond's parents were A. M. and Elizabeth A. Du Mond. He married Helen Xavier on 9 March 1896. In 1910, Du Mond's address was Briarcliff Manor, N. Y., and he was then vice president of the Architectural League. Other groups he identified with included the Society of Mural Painters, the Artists' Fund, and the Century, National Arts, Lotos, and Salmagundi Clubs. I have been impressed by the number of artists he taught. He must have had the ability to coach and inspire young artists, for it seems he left a great legacy of quality instruction in the academic tradition.
