Frederic Mizen backgroundLynne Hobson
Back in the '20's, Uncle Fred was one of the original Coca Cola artists. He usually framed his own work and I am told this makes his pieces a little more valuable. I was told he was best known for his Southwestern art. He did a lot of work for ads. I'm looking for the oil of the stage coach water color I have of his.

Painting by Frederic MizenGlenda Doyle
In the 1940's Frederic Mizen painted a picture of my Uncle Wayne. I would like to locate this picture. I don't necessarily want the picture I just would like to know where it is located. The picture was painted as a tribute to the Navy for the unsung heros. He was a survivor of the Coral Sea. (Uncle Wayne)

Value of Recital reproduction by Fredrick Neissen? Mizen?Joy Mantegani
My mother purchased this reproduction. My mother purchased this reproduction. The only information I can
give is what appears on back (A Gilbert reproduction, "Recital", by
Fredrick Neissen, I.M. CO. Company, Chicago). The painting is in early
Shakespearian time portrait consisting of a woman playing the piano
and another woman playing the cello. Have not been able to find any
information on this reproduction. I have heard that is was from S&H Greenstamps. It's in its orginial metallic gold(?) frame and original paper backing. Why the difference spelling in artist's name? Do you know any more history of it and possibly it's value.

Frederic Mizen print Mary Ellen James
I am delighted to find this sight and to hear from some one with knowledge of the value of my framed Mizen print stamped "Harp and Piano" 9426 and to find out something of it's history.
I also have a framed print (brush stroke on hard posterboard) of a young woman in red dress playing a grand piano, which is in front of an impressive mantel with matching tables on either side. A tall window is to the right.
I can read MI Di---------of the artist's name. . Does anyone have a clue about this one?
Almost all of the musical Mizen prints were premiums offered by S&H Green Stamps. They were printed and framed by the Borin Printers of Chicago, Illinois. They run in value from $100 if they are not in glass to $300 if they are. That all depends on condition as well. Because these were printed in large numbers many still exist. The frames were varied from a simple rope braid in a goldtone color to a rich dark frame.
painting - Indian girlLugene Tucker
Mr. Mizen was my art teacher at Baylor University. I frequently went to lunch with him and his wife, and he knew I could not afford one of his paintings. He decided to do a painting for me of a little Indian girl. He died before he finished it, and, of course, the painting never became mine. I would be curious to know who owns "my painting." When I last saw it, it looked like the old familiar unfinished painting of George Washington, with the girl's face completed and the lower half of the shoulders/body incomplete.

Recital by Fredric MeizenBarbara
The oil painting which I have has a metal placque engraved "Recital Fredric Meizen" I noticed that all the references for this artist spell it "Mizen". Any idea why the different spelling?
Most Mizen "Paintings" are copiesLenore
My mother received "The Recital" as a wedding gift from her mother in 1950. (This is the one with the blonde cello player and the brunette piano player) The "painting" is a "signed" copy on what appears to be an artboard with "brushmarks" etched in. They were readily available in the S&H Green Stamps catalogs. Several others were available as well, including "The Harp and the Piano", "Reminiscing", and "Love Letters".
Check ebay. Most are worth around a hundred bucks US. If you think yours is an original, take it to a frame shop. They'll know for sure.
