This artist was my great grandfather. My mother has told me that he was a mapmaker during the Civil War and drew the Union map for the battle of Chancellorsville He had a son(Frederick Morton Stuart, my grandfather)and perhaps a daughter. I have some of his watercolors and a number of his engravings. Some are hostorical taken from paintings of Washington, Lincoln, Hamilton, Lafayette (I believe) for example. His engraving of Edgar Alan Poe was used for the postage stamp.
