More on HergetS. Lambur
I really appreciate the input from others. I own a 6-painting watercolor set from Herget on The Song of Hiawatha. Many have illustrated this poem but Herget did an excellent job considering he didn't usually paint fantastic images. I don't know if the paintings were ever used for a book or not or whether they were ever displayed at all. They have been in my family's possession since at least 1960.
I am originally from St. Louis and know that my grandfather, John A. Robinson, was a commercial artist with a popular studio (did commissioned portraits of Auggie Busch) from the 1930's to the late 1950's and he was an illustrator and contemporary of Herget's and I am sure they knew each other, esp. back when commercial art was all original work on canvases. I do not know if my grandfather received the paintings as a gift but I suspect they traded paintings as my grandfather was wont to do.
