Delightful Ila McAfee
Danna Knox (11/10/2011)
we knew Ila as children growing up in Gunnison and admiring her mural in the Gunnison Post Office! My dad was a nephew of Dora Welch McAfee, and first cousin to Ila. I'd love to hear from you.

1943 Southwest Calendar
Randall McCoach (09/22/2007)
I bought a stack of "New Mexico" magazines at an estate sale, and tucked among them was a 1943 "Southwest Calendar," featuring black-and-white ink drawings by Ila McAfee - one per month. The back page features a biography that is much more extensive than the one listed on this site. It's held together by two punch holes at the top with a length of yarn run through. It's a little treasure. Write if you'd like to know more about it. Thanks.

A friend of mine has a casting mold of a soldier about 31 inches tall made by Ila Mae McAfee. There has been three castings created with this mold. Could you let me know if he was to have another statue made from this casting what would be the value of the statue? What is the casting mold worth? Thank you.

Stylized horses
John Lemon (03/09/2006)
I have a McAfee painting entitled "desert Wind" where the horses are stylized, not of the realistic manner she usually did (whether fantasy or not). Did she do any other such paintings?

Ila McAfee Paintings & Videos
Jussta (05/07/2002)
When I lived in Taos, NM, I became very good friends with Ila McAfee. She was and always will be very dear to me. I did videos of fine artists and did several on her, including her 75th Retrospective. I currently own five of her paintings - 3 oils of horses, one water color on crunched paper, and a very old colored pencil drawing of a mountain lion from the 1920's. Any collectors who own her work are very blessed, indeed. Please contact me and I will direct you to my website where you can view some of my items, photos and other information. I also did a video of her cat, Carlos, performing the most amazing tricks. Jussta

Ila McAfee
R. Allan Glover (09/15/2001)
I am one of the nephews of Ila. Sorry, I don't have any information of the value of the Stampede of the Waves. Shortly before her death Ila had some exceptionally high quality prints made of one of her Wave paintins. They are numbered and signed. They sell for $225.00. My brother owns the origional. Boy & dog at ocean
Vicki Kunkle (08/15/2001)
My father has an oil painting with this scene. Not sure of the actual name of the painting but can find no information about it. It doesn't look anything like her later works. Is this familiar to anyone?

Stampede of the Wave
Jenni Connolly (05/07/2001)
Hi Heather, I tried your email but it didn't work. I saw your posting on AskArt about the Ila McAfee's painting. How large is it? She did a number of paintings like that and then did a bunch of prints (I think they were for a calendar). Did anyone respond with a value? Are you interested in selling it or just interested in it's value? When I was a little girl my father used to visit Ila at her studio in Taos and I remember staring at her paintings for hours. She gave me a print that was actually a cropped version of one of the Stampede pictures. So I'm looking for the original in it's entirety. If you have a [picture of it scanned that would solve the question fast. :) I look forward to hearing from you. Jenni Connolly
