John Mowbray-Clarke is discussed briefly in Milton Brown's book on the Armory Show and also in the book "Sunwise Turn: A Human Comedy in Bookselling." Around 1901 the artist was living at the Onteora colony in the Catskills; there is a large relief sculpture by him created as part of an annual Onteora harvest fair showing a fox and bear gathering apples.
