Interested in information on John Ramage's time in NYC doing portrait miniatures of merchant families in 1780s-90s. His work as a goldsmith as well. Also his relationship with colonial New York society.

Ramage miniature
Name withheld (03/10/2001)
I have a beautiful Ramage of William Alexander, a.k.a. Lord Stirling, my 5 greats grandfather. He was a Major General under Washington. I would appreciate any information regarding Ramage painting other officers. Also, if you would like me to email you a photo, I'd be happy to.

Hope this addition is helpful: Morgan, John Hill and Mantle Fielding.: THE LIFE PORTRAITS OF WASHINGTON AND THEIR REPLICAS. ; Illustrated. Philadelphia. Privately printed. 1931. Limited edition of 1000 copies. 432 pp

Bad spelling of Ramage
AskART (01/10/2001)
Apparently, George Washington, in his diary, misspelled John Ramage's name as 'Rammage'. Go to the last name 'search box' above on this page, and type in Ramage and you will find the correct information.
