Large Jules Dahlager Paintings of Eddystone Rock & Danger IslandLisa White
After my parents purchased some downtown property in Ketchikan including the Ingersoll Hotel back in the 70's, I recall my first time walking into the Ingersoll and seeing the huge, 30x40+ Jules Dahlager paintings hung in the lobby there. One painting is of Eddystone Rock and the other is Danger Island. Ironically, the room that the Danger Island painting was hung in has that view of Danger Island out the window. My family still has these large paintings in their original frames, but online I have only seen very small paintings by Dahlager. Are there any other such large paintings done by this artist?

Ketchikan Elks Lodge has the aforesaid painting signed and dated 1948 by Jules, he lived here then. It is 26" wide by 24" tall. We are trying to place value.

Knowing Jules when i was growing up in Kedtchikan, Alaska, is a treasured memory. My family coveted his paintings and acquired a number of them which I have inherited. I also rfeceived one as a wedding gift. I kne him as the linotype ioperator at the Ketchikan Chronicle. It was remarkable to me that he could work in a priont shop shere ink stains abound and not dirty his formal whit shirts worn daily. His wife Lucille was my Latin teacher at Kayhi. My parents commissioned a couple of paintings which they asked him to produce from 35r mm slides they provided. Ironically, Jules incorrectly viewed one of the slides "inside out" so a view of it a mirror is correct.
