Lone Wolf painting on copperSCOTTY COOPER
Painting is of a male indian kneeling down, painting an animal hide of some sort. It appears to be in the original wood frame with a very aged paper back. It has the name on the bottom left hand side under the painting with the wolf head stamp under the name. Inscribed on the back in pencil it reads as follows, "To Miss A Ruby Wahl, From B C Brochta and family with best wishes, Tucson, Ariz, May 5 1936

My Grandfather's younger sister was married to Lone Wolf. Her name was Geneva Naoma Tracy. I believe she went by Naomi. She was born 20 Aug 1898 at Huntsville, Weber, Utah. She died 19 Aug 1972. They were married 9 Sept 1916. I remember meeting them at my grandfather house in Great Falls, Montana when I was a small boy of about 7 or 8 years old. It would have been about 1958 or 1959. My grandfather’s name was Henry Eli Tracy. He was called Hank by his friends.

My mother's maiden name was Schultz, and her family was from New York state. The Schultz genealogy doesn't mention Hart Merriam or his father James by name, but there are several family stories of an ancestor who left for the west, and lived with Indians, eventually marrying one. If anyone has information regarding Lone Wolf's and James Willard's family history or even descendants, please contact me. Thank you, I would love to learn more about these fascinating people who may just be related to me!

My daughter, Lisa Snow is related to Lone Wolf's wife, Naomi Tracy Schultz. Her aunt, Beth Ann Beck, recently published a family history of The Tracy family and geneology record in which there are a number of early pictures of Lone Wolf, Naomi, and Willard Schultz from the 1920's. What an interesting but difficult life they must have lived. After 54 years of marriage Hart died on Feb 9, 1970. Two years later, Naomi committed suicide on Aug 19, 1972 in Tucson, AZ.

There is a museum dedicated to Lone Wolf and his father, James Willard Schultz(apikuni was his blackfoot name). It is located in Greer, Az and is called the Butterfly Lodge(Apyuni Oyus). Lone Wolf and his father spent a lot of time here and it has been converted into a museum in their honor- well worth the visit.
I have a 1940 childrens book illustrated by Lone Wolf. It's name is Indians of Yesteryear.
