mary cassatt and appraisals
debbie d (10/01/2011)
Mary Caassat did sign some of her work with just her initials,M.C. Also, if you have an original artwork, an auction house such as Christy's will give an appraisal value at no cost and you do not have to sell the item. Check auction house websites for info on this.
Mary Cassatt PaintingBryan K
My parents purchased a Mary Cassatt painting in 1985 that has a Provenance from a highly respected gallery in NYC and a letter by Adolyn Breeskin from 1971. However, Sotheby's has questioned the Provenance b/c the painting is unsigned or so we thought until the other day.
The painting, when viewed by ultra-violet light has a small signature with what appears to be an H then MC. Does anyone know if Cassatt initialed certain paintings? Our painting was given to a friend of Cassatt's and was in a private collection until Breeskin reviewed the correspondences and verification items.
If anyone has some thoughts or suggestions on the matter, would love to hear.

Drypoint titled Sarah SmilingPatty
I have an original drypoint by Cassatt. Breeskin catalog #195 (no color). Beautifully framed. Certificate of authenticity from Merrill Chase Galleries Ltd. in Chicago. Can anyone tell me its value?
I have two prints by Cassatt. "The Banjo Lesson" and "Woman with Dog". I would like to know their value, if any. I could not find them listed in her gallery. If you can help me, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
