What your Norman Rockwell is worth ?
Slappy (01/23/2012)
Your paintings value is whatever someone else is willing to pay you for it. If it's a Norman Rockwell Original, meaning that the medium being pencil, ink or paint was actually applied to the object by Norman Rockwell himself. 95[[][%]] of the plates out their aren't worth any more than the one's you eat your dinner off of every evening. Even if they're numbered or have a Certificate of Authenticity. It's a piece of art, if you don't find it appealing and it has no intrinsic value, it's worthless to you so you seek out it's extrinsic value which is again, whatever someone else is willing to pay you for it. Throw it up on Ebay.com or Etsy.com with a price you think it's worth. If it is indeed a collectors item you should get market value which is usually somewhere between what you wanted for it and what someone is willing to give you for it. I have two Norman Rockwell pieces myself. The Piano Player that I find cool but I can part with it and get decent money for it because of it's nice matte finish and simple but nice frame. The other I just find fascinating and find something new every time I look at it. For instance, just now I noticed that cross dressing black man in the picture has a lack of pigmentation on the inside of his hands as in real life. He's a traveling horse back salesman and his black horse has a funny hat on just like he does. He's trying to sell a funny hat to a lady and her daughter is peeking out from behind her Mother at the black guy like she had never seen a cross dressing negro before. Relax, that's the term they used back then. There's also two geese and a bunch of little baby geese. I wnder why they're not chickens ? I just noticed he only has a thumb and 3 fingers on his hand which just adds to my love of this painting. It's also a raised painting on nice paper stock. If anyone needs an appraisal you can contact me at

identify signed print
Juliet (08/30/2011)
I have an unusual signed print of Norman Rockwell's that I can't identify. It seems to be a father wtih his son and daughter on a wooden row boat that is on rough seas. The daughter looks seasick and the son looks as if he is trying to steady the boat. If anyone has information on this print I would love to know something about it.

Information Please
Dan (08/15/2011)
I have a Norman Rockwell print that I am trying to get some information on.The print is of the Doctor and the Doll. There is no writing or letters on it except for the red lettered Norman Rockwell in the lower right hand corner. It's 11 x 14 in size, on the back of the print there is a paragraph that is titled Four Seasons Calendar: Grandpa and Me, and at the bottom center the number 20. I imagine that could be the number of a page, but the print does not look like it came from a book or anything because there is no binding or cut anywhere. Any information on this piece would be greatly appreciated Thank you!

Grandfather bought an unsigned original oil that was said to be a Norman Rockwell. It depicts and man with a beard sitting at at bar table with glass, A taller man is standing over him waiting to pour whiskey in the glass. It is as though he is waiting to see how many fingers of drink the customer wants. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I would appreciate any comments or informationas to where I can get specific help in identification. Grandfather paid $1000, for the painting in the 1950's. Thank you.

Norman Rockwell painted plates
roxy tucker (02/23/2008)
I ran into a gentlemen who has over 150-170 painted plates. They're from 5 different painters. One of them being Norman Rockwell. They were his wifes plates and they're about 20 years old. They are still in there original boxes. He doesn't know a thing about computers and wanted me to research for him and see how much they'd be worth. He has a list of the plates. Along with the number on the plate, and the painter. If you could get back to me, so i could give him some feed back, that would be great!

boat lithograph
elisheba (01/05/2008)
I have a lithograph of which I cannot find any information. It is a boat with a young (maybe teenage or a bit older)girl sitting in a pink scarf, a middle aged man holding the rudder leaning over and almost into her. The man is facing a young (ten years or so)boy, who is wearing only shorts, has his fists balled up and is ready to fight the man. The girl looks very sad or upset as though the man has done something to her and the boy appears ready to defend her. The colors are very muted, only a bright orange stripe on the boat on top and bottom. It is very strange because it doesn't carry any of the usual Rockwell emotions or scenes. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

norman rockwell painted my uncle
coleen quinn (01/03/2008)
I am trying to obtain a copy of it for my father's 70th birthday this year- as my uncle is now deceased. My uncle was born in 1942 and the painting was done when he was about 3-6 years old...so it was painted between 1945-1951. it was in one of the Westchester newspapers-possibly the Standard Sun. My dad only remembers my uncle, a basket, and another girl. It was possibly a laundry basket, or a bucked. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. I was told that it was possibly done as an advertisement.... Thank you!

Stolen Rockwell oil
Bill Burtis (03/04/2007)
Around 1981 I was working at Lucien's Old Tavern in Berlin, NJ. There was an original Rockwell in a glass case of a woman darning a flag. (circa:1921?) The place burned down (arson) and no trace of the painting or its expensive glass frame were found. Has there ever been a recovery? I have since seen the painting in a variety of art books.

The picture has little color other than a golden brown with blacks and greys for clothing, furniture etc. NORMAN ROCKWELL is printed in bottem left corner. Anyone know anything about this work?

April Fools lithographs
Marty (09/09/2005)
I have a pencil signed artist's proof of one of the April Fool's Day Post covers (I believe it is from 1943) that I purchased at Elayne Galleries in Minneapolis (from which a number of Rockwell lithos were stolen and recovered). It is huge (maybe 42" square or larger) and well-framed and a very interesting conversation piece. I recall seeing a list of the errors or mistakes in each of the 3 or 4 April Fool's paintings and would like to know if any one has a reference as to where these lists can be located. Also, is there a way to evaluate the worth of mine signed AP litho? Thanks for any information. Marty

Rare Norman Rockwell
Iris Lefkoff-Salmins (04/22/2004)
In 1974 a client of mine bought a painting at an auction that her congregation had to raise money. One day, more recently, a friend of hers who is an artist got curious about the artist of the “unsigned” painting. They removed enough paint to see that in fact there as a signature. My client gave the painting to my husband who is does fine art restoration. He uncovered the entire signature… Norman Rockwell! We asked some of our clients who are fine art dealers what to do with it. They recommended the Illustration House in N.Y. We drove the painting up and after many months, the painting has been authenticated! It is going to be auctioned next month. This is a rarity, an unpublished painting reflecting the time he spent in Spain. I would be happy to answer any questions and please feel free to publish or give out my E-mail address. My best E-mail address is lefkoffsalmins@aol.com Iris Lefkoff-Salmins
