Peter bela Mayer
Bob Durell (03/22/2007)
Mr. Quinn- I was a personal friend of Peter in the days he lived on Long Island- I kept up with his daughter June in Houston and his daughter in Chicago, and knew he died in a nursing home in Houston. Somehow I thought it was 1992, but I missed by only a month. Thankyou for your input. Wow- 106 years. He was a super nice man.

PETER BELA MAYER'S TRUE DEATH DATE
John T. Quinn (01/26/2007)
PETER BELA MAYER(PBM) did not die in 1992 as stated in this AskArt entry. Rather, PBM died in Houston, Texas on January 5, 1993. [[]PBM died in Texas due to family support well explained in the notice discussed below.] Sidenote: PBM was born in Hungary on August 5, 1887. When PBM died in January 1993 the New York Times (NYT) apparently did not consider his passing noteworthy. Therefore, no 'newsmaker' obituary was published for him by the NYT. However, PBM's family paid for a sub-stantial private (that is, a 'small' box, and, there-fore, never indexed notice.) This notice appeared in the NYT of January 7, 1993 p. D20. Anyone seeking substantial end of life, and other, information about PBM is strongly advised to read this family paid notice. The submitter of this PBM information has done so. Mr. Mayer's small box notice is surrounded on three sides by the very lenghty and detailed obituary of one of America's greatest jazz musicians, Dizzy Gillispie.
