Ralph Avery is one of the finest proponents of trasnsparent watercolor ever. As simplistic as his works tend to be they nevertheless convey a great sense of scale & mass. His analogeous palette is wonderful.

Ralph Avery was a peer of my dad's in Rochester, NY. Many of his paintings depict scenes from Rochester as well as New York City. One of the originals that I have is of the NYC is not much more than a foot in length and height.

When my mom died, I found in her attic a lovely pencil sketching of her in her youth --I had it framed and put on the wall... As one does, I decided to type the name of the artist into Google and came up wtih this site...I am sure it was done by THIS Ralph Avery as my mom was Rochester born and bred and the sketching is dated 1948.
