Gammell, R.H. IvesRobert Savini
I posed for Mr. gammell when he spent his summers in Provincetown, Mass. A very excentric person especially with time. A very ridgid user of time and a very avid bird-watcher. You could set your watch to the time he passed a certain telephone pole on his way to his favorite restaurant to eat. He spent the summer using me as a model and because he felt that the oils were not proper he would never show this painting and neither would he give it to me. To me it was a perfect likeness but to him he saw imperfection and of course he was the expert. My aunt who lived near his studio was engaged to keep it clean and did so for many summers. Being very young I couldn't sit very still and I'm afraid I made his summer a nightmare.
