Yuan lived in my grandmothers house when he and Ren Chi arrived in Monterey. Rae was just a little girl and we became good friends. It's been many years since we have been in touch, but I would love to hear from her again. Your uncle was a wonderful man. Kind, caring, deep. He was precieved as moody, but I believe that to be the "artist" in him. He was always deep in thought. I remember his restaurant on Cannery Row. Rae and I spent many happy days there. I miss him terribly.

I met your uncle in 1967 when we were both taking French in night school. i was a student at Monterey High. Your uncle was planning to travel to France. He painted my portrait at his house in Carmel. He and your aunt were very nice to me and I enjoyed sitting for the portrait. I would love to buy the portrait but have never been able to locate it. But I'll keep looking. Please let me know if you have seen an abstract portrait of a girl with log brown hair in a white blouse. It was shown in an exhibition at the Carmel Art Association Gallery in 1967-86.

This man was my uncle and everything i have read so far as a description to his personality has been pretty much negative. I was young at the time he was around but I remember a happy and funny side to him also. As to his personal life, I dont believe it is fair for people to preceive him as a moody unhappy individual just from heresay. He had a good heart and that is all that really counts.
