Tony EubanksKen Ratner
As a collector, it is always exciting to discover the work of a new artist whose pictures have a profound effect upon you. Such is the case with Tony Eubanks, a true master of the American West.
Recently, while looking at numerous images of the West,
depicted by some of our most accomplished and celebrated painters, I came upon a picture by Tony Eubanks, and was immediately drawn to it. The subject was a Native American woman, whom the artist records with share brilliance, and great respect.
Like Robert Henri, Tony Eubanks has the ability to capture with dignity the soul of his subjects, and clearly is a painter of humanity. He executes his pictures with strong draftsmanship, excellent use of color, superb lighting, and shadowing.
His landscapes, often painted with figures, are some of the best pictures I've seen, not only by contemporary painters, but also by the great masters of the American West who preceeded him.
