WALTER DENDY SADLERSUZANNE SADLER STONE
I'M OPENING A "BAG OF WORMS" IN WRITING THIS BUT I ENJOY READING ABOUT MY GRANDFATHERS POPULARITY. SO-- HIS MIDDLE NAME IS DENDY NOT DEMBY- HE IS A GENRE PAINTER, EACH PICTURE TELLS A STORY. GRANDFATHER PAINTED THE PICTURES, THE ONES CHOSEN FOR PRINTS WERE ETCHED ON COPPER PLATE. WHEN THEY WERE DONE BOTH ARTIST AND ETCHER SIGNED EACH PRINT MADE. THESE ARE CALLED REMARQUE ARTISTS PROOFS AND ARE MORE VALUABLE THAN JUST PRINTS.I HAVE 21 REMARQUE ARTIST PROOFS AND A PAINTING OF MY GRAND MOTHER.I WOULD BE GLAD TO ANSWER ANY REASONABLE QUESTION. I am 75 years old. When I was under 6 years old, there was a lady that lived next door name of MacIntire. She gave a portrait of a woman sitting in front of a fireplace, with a butler.
The signature was Walter Denby Sadler. My son now has possesion of this picture. At one time back in the late sixtys, I went tried to do some research, but we could never find this one. It looked like it was done with lithography, pen strokes.
What do you think? I can't remember the details, but my son would. If you think this could be something, I would give you his email address.
Over the nuts and wineJOHN HUGHES
Further to my comments of 4/10/09 : My wife and I have returned to Swansea to live after 51 years away. Needless to say the "old charmer" Over the nuts and winw " has come with us and occupies a lovely wall space overlooking the South Quay marina. It still gives much pleasure. Any WDS fans in this south west Wales second city ?

I have a beautiful Sadler in B&W etched by Dobie that I believe to be the above title. This print in it's original frame published in 1902 hung in my great grandfather's house. I have exhausted my internet research trying to locate more than a hint of this etching's existence. Does anyone know of a resource on the web or in print that would address the works of this artist.

We have a B&W Print signed by W.Denby Sadler and James Dobie. The size is
aprox 15-1/2 x 23 and the frame size (seems to be the original frame) is 30 x 36. We think the name might be "The Bar Parlour"
There is the image of a pub sign underneath the picture. It is copywrited
1919, London. We are looking for any information regarding the rarity and value. It picture is of 4 gentlemen and one woman around a table, all are seated except for one of the gentleman. There is a paper on the wall behind them that says "The George Inn".

W Dendy Sadler/Elder husband and elder wife pair of picturesE. Abram
I have a pair of framed pictures signed by Sadler at the lower left. The elder gentleman is raising his glass from the far end of the dining table, the other picture is of the wife raising her glass to him. I inherited these pictures a number of years ago and know nothing about the artist or the origin of these obviously old but in good condition pieces. I could use any input available.
W Dendy Sadler/etched by W H BoucherJ.D. Stevens
I have two beautifully framed and matted etchings by Sadler and etched by Boucher. One etching is an old gentleman at the head of a dining room table holding up a glass of wine. The toast at the bottom is "MY LOVE TO YOU". The other etching is of his elderly wife at the far end of the dining table holding a glass of champagne (it is clear in a flute) with the caption "SAME TO YOU DEAR". On the top of the prints in miniscule writing is 'entered according to act of congress in the year 1898 and 1903 respectively, in the Office of the Librarian of Congress Washington USA printed in London by ?' The bottom has W Dendy Sadler signature and then beneath that the pulisher's name L.H. LeFevre and address and dates. Are these etchings worth anything? If so how does one go about researching the value.
Original Sadlers?Jeff McGee
I recently found two black and white etchings both signed by W Dendy Sadler. No other signatures. They are both in beautiful mahogany (or other dark wood)numbered frames with labels from FH Barton of bristol UK. The date on the lable is 1906.
Each also has a brass plague with the respective titles:
'Darby and Joan' and 'The end of the skein'.
Can anyone tell me if these might be originals as they were framed while Sadler was still alive? Given the quality of the frame someone obviously thought very highly of them.
W Dendy Sadler/etched by W H Boucherginger
Are the etchings worth anything on a range from $50 to $1,000 ?

I wish to further identify an etching I have. A data sheet on the back indicates it is by W. Dendy Sadlert and etched by Lowenstain. It further states it is a signed artist proof, Edition Limited. It is signed in pencil, in the front lower left and right by Sadler and Lowenstain, respectively. It depicts three gentlemen sitting at a table. One is peeling a potato or apple. a couple of dogs are in the right background and a couple of dead quail are in the left forefront. It is black and white.
I discovered this artist with the most wonderful large painting of his portraying an intmate scene of a family gathering around the piano on New Year's day. The garndparents, the parents and the 3 children and the aunt. Miseltoe was hanging on the center of the room and xmas greens and red decorated the mantle piece. A picture of family warmth.
The painting (1,30cmx1,30cm) is in the lobby of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Worth the trip!
