Washington Cooper portraitEmily Noel
My husband and I have a very large portrait of John Hopkins Noel, Oscar Noel and Edwin Noel as young children. It was painted in 1889 , signed by W. Cooper, signed in red/orange paint at the bottom left corner. It depicts my husband's grandfather, and his 2 great uncles. All 3 of the children are full bodies..and seem to "float" on the canvas..actually cherubic for 2 of them (probably ages 1 1/2 and 3) One is, actually, reclined in what looks like a floating hammock! The oldest (probably 5) is standing All are dressed in summer, batiste clothing. ...the portrait is beautiful!I hope this information might be of help for someone...There are examples of his work in the Tennessee State Museum.
Possible sitters for Washington B. Cooper?W. Terry Jackson
An aquaintance has three portraits of a Lebanon, TN family. They are Josephus Flavius Sanders, Josephus Flavius Sanders, Jr. and Margaret Sanders. If anyone has access to information regarding a list of sitters for Cooper I would greatly appreciate it if you would contact me if the Sanders were painted by Cooper.
Portrait by WB CooperGeorge Barrilleaux
I have a family portrait attributed to WBC. The fammily name is Perret. I am trying to determine the name of the family member. It was painted around 1845 when I have been told the Cooper brothers painted family portraits in Louisiana. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was also told there is probably a sister portrait to the one I have.

Bishop James OteyLuthur A Beazley
There is a reference in Washington B. Cooper's records to Bishop Otey. It is dated 01/14/1846
"Bishop Otey for L.J. Polk,pd.$50". Records are not complete but it does seem that the two gentlemen did business at some point.

The log book and log book index for my great-great grandfathers portraits can both be found in the
Tenn. State Library and Archives. My family has both originals but we cannot find the index at this point. We will continue to look and would be happy to communicate with you.

I own, and have prominently displayed, a portrait by Washington
Bogart Cooper, of my great, great grandmother, Martha Ann Estes Gennett, From Nashville. Does anyone know from the artist's records as to the date this was painted? I also have a photograph of the sons of Martha Ann Estes Gennett (5), among them the father of my mother's father. My mother was named after Martha Ann Estes Gennett, as was my daughter. Any comments would be much appreciated. John
