Artist Statement
Cobie Russell's work embodies how the artist sees and experiences the world, moving back and forth between paintings and drawings of light and shadow, form and structure, space and time, each in their brevity and beauty.

Raised in the soft light of the Finger Lakes Region of New York, Cobie Russell became interested in the effect of light on water and air. Russell had the good fortune of early teaching, which provided the technical arts skills while giving her space to develop her own language of visual expression.

Upon arriving in Texas, Cobie Russell was captivated by the brilliance of the light in the Southwest. Settling in Texas, Russell continued to develop her distinctive techniques of layering line and color.
