Evelyne Boren a native of Munich , Germany enjoys world wide recognition for her impressionistic art interpretations of life ,people and scenes of the Southwest , Mexico and Europe in watercolors and oil paintings . Evelyne's life reads like an adventure story- from the time she attended school in Switzerland and then England , to her move to the United States in 1958 and her Stunt work in the movies.
Before beginning her full- time professional career as an artist, Evelyne had an aquatic career that included underwater stunt doubling in the James Bond films " Thunderball" and" You Only LIve Twice". She was the first women in the world to swimm with a killer whale in "Namu The Kille Whale"and she appeard on What"s My Line and To Tell The Truth ,no one guessing her profession .She also appeard frequently in the television series " Sea Hunt" ",Aquanauts" and "Flipper" whom she helped train.
From these adventures she turned to painting in 1962 ,while on location filming in the Bahamas. The breathtaking color and beauty of the islands stirred a deep desire within me to express my feelings on canvas, so I began to paint.
This enthusiasm, drive and discipline have resulted in a very successful career.Evelyne has studied with several importent teachers ,but has developed a style that is strictly her own. She has more then 4000 original paintings in privat and corporate collections around the world. In 1997 Evelyne had the honor of having one of her paintings selected for the official Santa Fe Opera Poster.
She maintains a permanent studio in Santa Fe ,New Mexico and in Sayulita Mexico
In 1990,Roussillon,France , she entered a competition for paintings using only burnt sienna, raw sienna and yellow ocher pigments that are mined locally . The only foreigner, she ended up with the first prize over forty French artists.

After over 40 years of painting both in watercolor and in oils I am experiencing a sense of newly found excitement , using the palette knife instead of the brush.
My favorite way to start a painting is, to go out on location and do a small watercolor that captures the scene, color, mood at that particular time of day.
Then back to the studio , do a few charcoal sketches of the same subject improving the design by thinking things through and simplifying. As I like to work with a limited palette , I will choose my color combination and do a few small color sketches to see if my choice of color can express what I feel about the subject. Then with very little drawing I lay in pure , exciting clean color washes saving some white arias .In watercolor I work from light to dark, letting each passage dry before adding more color. With each wash I will gray some of the painting leaving the purest color or white paper where I want the eye to go . Thinking light against dark and dark against light , warm against cool and cool against warm. Pushing , pulling, negative painting and scraping into the fresh moist pigment to let some of the under-painting come through in order to enhance my center of interest . The secret is to know when to stop! Put the watercolor in a mat and stand back , if needed add a few final touches , then leave it alone.
After working in oils the conventional way , from dark to light I have recently enjoyed a new direction a more direct approach using palette knifes for most of the painting . Like in watercolor I think things through so when I start putting pigment on the canvas I know where I want it to go . I mix my limited palette and work wet into wet moving the paint with my knifes . I work from thinner lairs of paint to thicker more textured lairs. My own feeling and excitement for the subject will come through in a fresh and pleasing way . I listen to my inner feelings and go with the flow and as in my watercolors I want to be sure not to over work the painting.
Working in both mediums can be a challenge , It keeps me from getting bored . Over the years my watercolors have become stronger and my oils looser because of painting in both mediums.
