Artist Statement
I think I've always loved to draw and fascinated by colors. I started early, remembering winning an award in first grade for a large bunnie rabbit. That rabbit hung in our finished basement until the oil burner exploded and did the rabbit in. In high school I took every art class available and had a wonderful teacher who helped me grow and gave me the encouragement to do more. I kept in touch until she passed away.
I've studied so much on my own reading about the lives of artists I've admired. I especially enjoy the works of Sorolla, Inness, Braun and Sargent. I love the Russian School, their paintings are so earthy, you can feel it. I've studied with living artists I admire and have learned so much. However,I still find Mother Nature my best teacher. Most everything I create begins out of doors, on location. From there, if I feel my studies are promising, I'll use them to create larger, more detailed studio paintings. Sometimes I'll take as much as two years to complete a piece. I won't sign it until I've said what I have to say and hopefully convey it to the viewer.
I'm blessed to be able to paint out of doors nearly every day of the year. Living in Southern California, most of the year, it's wonderful just being out of doors. Also living here I have so many options, the Sea, the mountains and the desert all within an hours drive.
Creating art and expressing my feelings is the Best Gift possible and I love passing it on helping others enjoy the view.
