Linda L. Sorensen was born on March 3, 1945 in Eureka, California (maiden name Linda Louise Larsen). Her younger years were spent in Chicago and nearby cities, and in Summit, New Jersey, and Elmhurst, Illinois for junior high and high school. She was always drawing from her earliest years. While attending Summit High (and junior high) in New Jersey, and at York Community High in Elmhurst, Illinois, she won competitions, first painting with water media in a realistic vein. She began oil painting in high school, moving from abstract-influenced landscapes into colorful abstract expressionism both non-representational and also with landscape images. One of her paintings, "Slide" (see website), was included in a juried exhibition at the University of Wisconsin (circa 1964) while she was an undergraduate there. She moved to Berkeley, California, in 1967, and continued painting while employed at the University of California. Having painted seriously from the late '50s to the early '70s, she became an attorney in San Francisco after obtaining her law degree in 1976 from Boalt Hall at the University of California, Berkeley. She resumed her focus on oil painting in 2008.
Linda lives with her husband Dan Rohlfing in Bodega Bay, California, with whom she owns Bodega Bay Heritage Gallery, the fine art gallery that specializes in Early California Art and represents a few local artists. She paints principally on the Northern Coast of California, including Sonoma and Marin Counties, the canyonlands of Arizona, and Hawaii.

Linda crafts landscapes with her artistic vision grounded in realism with a strong stylized modernist element of design, movement, and depth, not surprising given her mid-Century abstract expressionist background. Composition, color, story. She seeks to capture the depth and vibrancy of a scene as if the viewer were soaring over it. Contrasts of light and shadow are important for her selection of subjects.
In addition to the bold designs of Regionalism, Linda is inspired by Taos' Ernest Martin Hennings 1886-1956, Iowa's Marvin Cone 1891-1964, Missouri's Thomas Hart Benton 1889-1964, and among California painters Ray Strong 1905-2006.
