| A resident of California, Albert Ames lived in Los Angeles and died in Santa Barbara in 1897, having moved to southern California for health reasons in 1885. He was an oil painter known for his still lifes of fruits and flowers, and his painting "Fresh From the Vineyard" received much attention at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893.
