Albrecht Altdorfer was a painter and engraver. He was born around 1480 in Regensburg, Bavaria. He held the appointment of City Architect and other political positions; he owned much property and became quite affluent. He was also a keen and accomplished draftsman. His dated works begin about 1506 and included paintings, engravings and drawings. His curious painting 'Family of Satyrs' in Berlin's Staatliche Museum dates around 1507.
