Active in San Francisco and Sacramento, Amanda Austin was a landscape, still life, and portrait painter in charcoal, watercolor and oil as well as graphic artist and sculptor. A specialty was California missions.
Austin was born in Carrollton, Missouri, the daughter of a doctor and was briefly a student of George Caleb Bingham in her native state. She was a beautiful young woman, reportedly looking like late 20th-century movie star, Barbra Streisand. A wealthy uncle in California offered (showing 500 of 1707 characters). |
