| Born in Connecticut in 1870. The Penning family settled in Santa Monica about 1878. Bertha made singing tours of the U.S. and Europe for 18 years before marrying Albert C. Amet and returning to Santa Monica in the 1920s. For about 12 years she was art director of California Federation of Women’s Clubs. In her leisure she painted landscapes of the area around her home. She died in Kansas City, MO on Sept. 15, 1948.
