"I grew up as a friend to the family of Bruce and Jean Ariss, and knew, briefly, Ellwood and Barbara Graham, both painters. Bruce was also a writer and his wife was a writer. Bruce was responsible for the famous Cannery Row mural painted on the plywood fences that bordered the empty lots on the Row.
