This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following biography is submitted August 2002 by the artist, David Ascalon.

David Ascalon was born in Tel Aviv, Israel on March 8, 1945. He received his early artistic training as an apprentice of his father, Israeli sculptor Maurice Ascalon (formerly Maurice Klein), who was the founder of Israel's Pal-Bell decorative arts manufacturing company.

With a background in sculpture, Ascalon studied art and design at the University of California, Northridge, between 1963 and 1966.  He then pursued studies in interior design and architecture at New York's Pratt Institute, where he received his architecture degree in 1970. Throughout the 1970s, Ascalon worked in the field of architecture for a number of firms in New York, and for the firm of the noted Israeli architect, Arie El-Hannani in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Ascalon soon left the field of architecture, however, in search of a more immediate means of artistic expression. In 1977, Ascalon fused his skills as a sculptor and architect and founded Ascalon Studios, a multi-faceted art studio dedicated to the design and creation of monumental sculpture, art objects, and decorative art primarily but not exclusively of a Judaic nature.

Ascalon's concepts and designs are translated into finished works by a staff of artisans utilizing cast and fabricated bronze, steel, stained glass, sand carved glass, ceramics, mosaics, stone, woods and fibers. Since the Studio's inception, Ascalon has executed over 100 permanent installations throughout North America.

Projects include: Public art; synagogue sanctuary design; the design and creation of synagogue arks, eternal lights, stained glass windows, mosaics, murals, donor recognition works, furnishings, Judaica, miscellaneous liturgical art and Holocaust memorials.

Ascalon's works include Pennsylvania's Holocaust Memorial, a towering abstract composition of fabricated stainless and Cor Tan steel on the Susquehanna River at Harrisburg.

His works have been exhibited at the Jewish Museum in New York, as well as the Museum of Jewish American History in Philadelphia. He serves on the board of directors of the Guild of American Judaic Artists and lectures on the subject of Judaic art.

Ascalon resides with his wife, Ronit, a stained glass artist, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The couple has three sons, Eric, Brad and Josh.
