Biography from AskART:
Atwill, Douglas E.
Born: 1933 Pasadena, CA / Currently living in Santa Fe, NM

Douglas E. Atwill is a contemporary acrylic painter of New Mexican landscapes. He is not interested in the emotions on his canvas, but rather the design, and has no preconceived ideas of a scene when he starts a new work. He begins by making sketches with pen and ink and taking photographs. He composes with the lens, then refines the composition by matting the print. The primary element he desires is pattern.

Atwill was educated at the Universita per Stranieri in Perugia, Italy for one year, and at the University of Texas, from which he graduated in 1961. He completes about one-hundred paintings per year and discards approximately 30.
